The game of Bingo originated from Italy where its name was “Beano”, and was played in country fairs. They used a caller to draw the discs from a cigar box. As the caller called out numbers, the players would be marking them on their cards using beans. They were to use the numbers to make a particular row or column and the first one to succeed would shout a loud “Beano” to effectively stop the game and be declared the winner.

The first person to develop the Bingo game into what it is today was called Edwin Lowe, him together with Carl Leffler. By the year 1930, there were well over 6,000 different bingo cards.

Bingo is now played everywhere including mainly in community halls and also at church functions. It has become more stylish. A caller makes the calls and players will sit around a table with cards which they daub with ink as the numbers are called out. Since it is not just a mere game, it becomes a stiff competition with each player rearing to shout “Bingo!”

With the advent of the internet, Bingo has become a game played all over the world and people do it in the comfort of their own homes.

Those who play Bingo on the internet must register at one of the bingo sites either for free or for a fee. Then the new member is supposed to pay a deposit into the individual account.

After making the deposit, the player starts to receive extra credit as bonuses given to him and he uses these to start playing the game of bingo.

Playing on the internet gives the player the extra comfort of the numbers being called for him by the computer; the cards marked the same way and the “Bingo!” too, because the system is fully automated.

Now let’s get into the Black Sox scandal of’19. The White Sox faced the Reds in the World Series. The White Sox lost the series and Joe Jackson, and eight other players were accused of throwing the series. But Shoeless Joe stats show he did not play poorly. Do you think a .375 average and 12 hits (a world series record) is throwing the series? His fielding percentage in the series was 1.000, having made no errors.

Some have pointed out an abnormally high number of triples the Reds hit to left field (where Jackson played), but research shows this to be inaccurate, as the Reds hit no triples to left field that series. Contradicting his numbers is the fact that Jackson did accept a $5,000 check. It would seem that Jackson reluctantly accepted the money with his teammates, but most likely didn’t want to actually throw the series.

This begs the question: does Shoeless Joe belong in the hall?

After a devastating performance for the French National Soccer team in South Africa, they’ve appointed a new coach. Laurent Blanc will now be the man in charge in bringing this squad back to the powerhouse they once were.

He’s started out by making big changes. He’s dropped the entire 23-man roster that was in South Africa for his first game as coach.

The French federation approved of this move. I guess they think it’s the right move and have allowed Blanc to make these suspensions after the embarrassing performance they put on.

He will not deal with the negative energy that came out of South Africa and was publicly displayed as well. The team couldn’t win a game and the players protested against the staff. Laurent Blanc means business and will punish the team for this even though he wasn’t there at the time.

On August 11th, France will play a friendly match against Norway. This will be Blanc’s first game as head coach as they get ready for the 2012 European Championship. In the 2008 European Championship, France also went winless. The last six years have been devastating for French soccer.

The French side faced drama during the World Cup due to the newspapers making things worse. They publicly shared Anelka’s harsh words of former Coach Domenech as he spoke his mind at halftime vs. Mexico. It was the French federation that made the decision to send Anelka home.

It was after this match that Anelka was sent home. Then things got worse once again. Patrice Evra got caught in a situation with their fitness manager. This was also caught on live TV, which was terrible publicity for him and the team. He’s meant to be a leader as he was appointed team captain. After Anelka was sent home, the French team protested and refused to practice.

The entire team was frowned upon not only by the country, but by politicians as well. Lilian Thurman who was a former International player for France publicly said that Evra should never be allowed to play for France again due to his performance off the pitch. Clearly, Blanc has a lot of work to do on the field and off. Time will tell, but expect major changes.
